Marine Corps Commandant

I have just gone to the official Republic of Korea Marine Corps website. On the page www.rokmc.go.kr/intro/intro_cmc.htm and its sub-pages there are flags used by the Commandant of the Marine Corps... in fact he uses four flags! There is the National Flag, the Marine Corps Flag (similar to USMC, with a silver star replacing the globe), the Commandant's Flag (the Marine Corps flag with three white stars arranged horizontally so that the silver star is 'obscured'), and the rank flag for a lieutenant-general (three white stars arranged horizontally above a wreath of mugonghwa). To make things even more confusing, the Commandant is seen pictured with Marine Corps Flags with gold stars instead of silver! Amid all the confusions, given the info on Album des Pavillions and on this webpage, a lot has been learnt about South Korean rank flags: all armed services use similar rank flags, in red for army and marine corps, in navy blue for navy, and in light blue for air force. Rank is denoted by one to four white five-pointed stars arranged horizontally above a wreath of mugonghwa (hibiscus).
